DIY MATCHA MONSTERA PIE - REMAKE OF @HUMMINGBIRDHIGH
Hello everyone!
This will be my first post on how to make something! I’m really excited to show you how I executed this Matcha Monstera Pie. I first saw it on Instagram made by the amazing @hummingbirdhigh, who makes the most beautiful creations. Almost a year ago I took a class at Williams Sonoma on pie making (I am still not confident in my skills, but it was very educational) and got this lovely white pie dish, so I finally decided to put it to use.
Since I’m not a fan of berry pies and my Grandpa loves Apple Pie, I used this recipe made by @samanthachiu (who also makes amazing concoctions) on Aiya Matcha’s website. Once you use this recipe come back here to follow the steps on how to decorate your pie! It’s important to note that you should have ceremonial grade matcha. Additionally, there were a lot of actions in this recipe like “cutting in the butter” where I went to Youtube to refresh my memory. I’ve done this for other desserts, but not often.
Once you have your dough rolled out to 1/8” inch and your bottom pie crust in the pan, the real creative stuff begins.
You’ll need:
An exacto knife
Patience
I wanted to draw my own monstera leaf but couldn’t make it simple enough, so I actually used a stencil Marwa Hayat from EnthrallingGumption provided online to make a doormat! This seems like a great DIY by the way, and it’s on my to do list.
Once I cut out the monstera leaf stencil, I simply placed it on the dough and used my clean Exacto knife (Pairing knife works as well) to cut around the sides. I simply laid them out in in a circle around the top of the pie and then followed the recipe again to bake it!
I chose not to use egg wash.
Here’s the finished pie baked! The right was while it was on it’s way to my Grandpa’s house. It’s a really delicious pie!
